And now for the double headache

Just a quick scribble in the old diary as to recent developments.

Today I rang the sterling chaps at the USCIS (the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service....or disservice as the case may be) because I am officially official in that since the last time the fellows at the office sent me a correspondance has exceeded 60 days (so now we have it...over 90 days since original application filed and 60 days since any correspondance was received) which means that big things can happen....supposedly.

"I was told to call back when 60 days had passed without any correspondance."
"Ok Sir, I shall put a request into the system."
"Jolly good there Miss."
"Actually, it does say you already have a request in the system. I can't physically enter a new request until 45 days has passed since this request was entered. The computer will not le me do it."
"Righto. When would that be then?"
"December 20th."
"So if nothing happens, I can call back after December 20th?"
"Yes."

Now I shant bore you with all of my misgiving (there is now a list longer than my arm) but I am not sure what the act of putting a request into the system really gets you. In my experience it seems to get one a false sense of something being done when in actual fact it seems to be a way of getting you off the phone. If they do not process the first request, I don't see why they will listen to the second, considering that in this country I have as much recourse to any justice as a tortoise has to a holiday on the moon.

So we wait....again...

yours in patience,

Sgt M

Compare, if you will sir, with our experience of yesterday at the Immigration Dept here in 'ole Nippon, home of bid-rigging and the faceless, monolithic bureaucracy of Anime fame. We went into Matsue immigration dept. yesterday, to find the only staff member speaks very good english; he told us Emma can put in an application to become a dependent ona form (provided); then after a week the form is processed, and when we come to pick up the visa Emma can submit an application for permission to work which is processed that same day. Voila! The only hitch: the Australian Embassy misinformed us about where to get a marriage certificate, so we aren't sure what to do about that.

Compare and contrast, old chap.

Oh for the love of God, their bungling is truly the stuff of legend. The Nottlesby blood verily curdles at the thought that a chap who wants nothing more than to press on with some gainful employment is thusly thwarted at every turn.

How are things otherwise?
